Charles Purdy: I’m Charles Purdy. Dating is hard. Online dating is even harder. There a few ways you can make the whole process of finding love a little less painful. The first thing to realize is that all of these emails and online profiles that you’re dealing with represent real people. So, of course, you shouldn’t do anything that you’re not comfortable with. Obviously, creepy emails, just like creepy people, can be ignored. A thoughtful email, or a request to get to know you better is probably best responded at lease with the form, “sorry, but no thanks” email. Another thing to keep in mind is that your online profile is accessible not only to suitors, but also to your boss, friends, and your mom and dad. Therefore, keeping it clean is a good idea. Your online profile is your reputation. Just as in dating in general, in online dating, it is never safe to make assumptions. So if you have found your one true love and you think it’s time to take down your personal profile, you can’t assume that the other person is feeling the same way. You’ve got to talk about it. This is a matter where communication is very important. You don’t want to take any risks when it comes to matter of true love and your heart.
