Charles Purdy: I’m Charles Purdy and I’m here to talk about business networking. People are concerned how to do it these days because the technology has changed so rapidly. However, even though the technology has been changed, the fact that you’re dealing with people has not even though those people might be represented by small icons on a screen or a small thumbnail picture. You can equate using social networking sites, such as Linked in, to an alumni cocktail party. Just as you wouldn’t ignore someone who came over and asked a favor at a cocktail party, you shouldn’t ignore a request that comes to you through Linked in. At the same time, you’re always free to say no, politely. Another thing to keep in mind is that online networking sites sort of serve as your reputation. Although the web affords some anonymity, you are not anonymous because you’re online.
