One Blouse, Three Outfits

Goldie Chan: I’m Goldie Chan. I’m a fashion writer. A piece that works for multiple outfits is the blouse because it has a very timeless cut. So it will skim the body and at the same time it’s not too tight. So you’re not revealing too much. Also, it’s a very classic piece that a lot people already have in their wardrobe. This blouse is great for many reasons. The first one of course is the most obvious one. The print. This is a lovely print. It’s a wonderfully medium size print that works with a lot of different body shapes. Of course it’s a very loud and attractive print. What keeps it from being too overbearing is the fact that it’s done in two very classic colors, black and white. The shape is a fitted shape. It’s very streamline and it’s going to skim over the body without hugging it too tightly. Of course there’s a lot of great extras on this shirt. So, we have these wonderful cap sleeves, which are very flattering on arms and also a rounded neckline. The shape and color of the outfit are very important. So the three outfits that we are going to be looking at today are day-date, work, and All-American casual. Let’s start with work. Work will be a very streamline shape, of course, which is what we talked about before with the pencil skirt, the very structured work tote, the wide belt to really accentuate the waist, and finally a very mod-ish square jacket. The next outfit that we’re going to be looking at is a very casual day-date outfit. This is a very fun look that we’re going to have. It has a long, very classic trench coat and with it we’re going to pair these very fun, and actually kind of new, suit shorts along with it. Finally what we’re going to pair with it is a v-neck cardigan. For the third look, we have our most fun look, which is the All-American casual. So what we’ll be doing is we’ll be pairing a very classic straw bag in a very elegant shape. Also, we’ll have a more fun, funky, and of course trendy sailor pant with great detailing on it. One tip that I can give you, which is my take away tip, is KISS. Keep It Streamline Sweetie. So you don’t want lots of odd shapes coming in and out and especially when you have such a wonderfully streamlined piece of clothing like a shirt, like the one I’m wearing right now which is my favorite shirt, you want to always match that very streamlined feel. Using a printed blouse in many different outfits in your wardrobe is a really good idea because a printed blouse is inexpensive and it’s a wonderful piece that you can add which the prints will change with seasons and so you can always add on a new one and really update your wardrobe and get that fresh flare.
